The Breaking Bread Program is a grassroots initiative dedicated to nourishing our community with more than just a meal—we’re here to share a little extra love.

What does it mean to "Break Bread"?
Literally, it’s sharing a meal. Socially, it’s the act of sharing our resources—money, time, or assets—to lift one another up. Spiritually, it represents becoming one family, an unbreakable bond with each other and with God. To us, it’s all of the above. We take care of our own, ensuring that when one of us rises, we reach back to help the rest. In this family, we all eat.

Our Roots
The spirit of "Breaking Bread" was instilled in Tre’jor Hopkins, owner of Flavor Wagon, from a young age. When he realized his dream of launching a food truck in 2020, he knew the mission had to be bigger than the bottom line. Seeing the need in the streets of Topeka, Tre’jor began dropping off meals to his unhoused neighbors after every shift. It wasn't a corporate strategy; it was just the right thing to do.

The Program Today
What started as a simple tip jar for spare change has grown into a community movement. As the economy has shifted and food costs have risen, the generosity of our neighbors has kept pace—moving from quarters in a jar to donations of thousands of dollars.

The Future
We’re just getting started. Driven by your support, we are expanding our reach through direct initiatives and fundraisers. From donating meals to the Ronald McDonald House to hosting our annual Holiday Banquet with the YWCA Women’s Shelter, we are committed to feeding the hungry and strengthening the bonds of our community
