Breaking Bread Program

The Breaking Bread Program is a grass root effort to feed folks in our community that need a little extra love.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO 'BREAK BREAD'? – The literal answer is to consume a meal together, the social answer could mean sharing something with each other such as a meal, money, assets, etc or you could take it deeper and consider the spiritual answer which is becoming one body of Christ, an unbreakable family bond, not just with one another, but also with God. To us, Breaking Bread means all of the above, we take care of each other and WE ALL EAT. As we go high, we reach back and help others along the way.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED - "Breaking Bread" with others is something that has been instilled into Flavor Wagon Owner, Tre'jor Hopkins, since he was a young boy. In 2020, when Tre'jor was blessed enough to follow his dream of becoming a food truck owner he knew it would be about more than making money. It is very common to see homelessness in the various locations where the food truck sets up around Topeka, KS. Because Tre'jor was always taught to Break Bread with others, it was common for him to drop off meals to folks on the streets after a day of work.

WHERE IS THE PROGRAM NOW - People took notice and wanted to help! We sat a 'tip jar' at the window of the food truck to collect a little change to help cover of of the food expense. Since 2020, needs have grown in our community as our economy has taken some turns, Covid has effected many household incomes and food costs continue to rise. We went from collecting quarters in a tip jar to generous strangers donating hundreds of dollars! That is when we realized how far this program could go! 

WHERE IS THE PROGRAM HEADED - Feeding more people! The overwhelming support from our community has inspired us to work on more fundraisers and plan more direct initiatives to feed the hungry. We've donated free meals to families at Topeka Ronald McDonald House, we've partnered with YWCA to put on an annual Holiday Banquet for the victims Women's Shelter and we are looking forward to many more events in the future.
